The management of the Osun State University, Osogbo, has threatened to
stop the salaries of workers of the university who embarked on an
indefinite strike over their unpaid allowances.
Three workers' unions at the university had declared an indefinite strike on Wednesday to press home the demand for their entitlements.
But in a statement by the institution's Registrar, Dr. Julius Faniran, a copy of which was made available to our correspondent in Osogbo on Thursday by the Senior Assistant Registrar, Mr. Marcus Awobifa, the university warned the workers against embarking on an "illegal strike", threatening that it would apply the no-work-no-pay rule, if anybody ignored the warning.
The university stated that the strike was politically motivated and was illegal. Faniran also warned workers on contract appointment against joining any union or embarking on strike.
The statement read, "The Management of Osun State University has warned members of the Non-Academic Staff Union and National Association of Academic Technologists of the institution, not to embark on any illegal strike.
"The strike action has political implications/undertone and adequate notice, in line with the Labour Law, was not given before the strike was declared. No work, no pay rule will be enforced on any worker who refuses to report at his or her duty post."
