This was disclosed by the head of the fund raising committee, Muyiwa Osinuga aka Nomoreloss, who told Nigerian Entertainment Today that the government of Rotimi Amaechi has finally reached out to the committee with a pledge to foot the entire bill for the transplant.
He said, ‘Officials of the government reached out to us this evening, (Wednesday, June 3) promising to donate a $100,000. The presentation, they say, will be made on Friday (June 5). We are indeed grateful to the Governor and the people of Rivers State. Now we can finally have that surgical procedure’.
The singer further thanked Nigerians for their support. ‘We also appreciate the kind hearts of Nigerians who have made donations and those that supported us with prayers. May God bless them all’.
Meanwhile it remains uncertain where the operation will take place ‘We had a place in mind initially, but recently, there’s been several suggestions from some quarters on better options. We would be having a meeting by the weekend with all concerned parties to decide which of the options is best.’, Nomoreloss told NET this morning.
The musician also says the identity of the kidney donor will not be revealed. ‘The donor is a family member, but for some reason, we do not wish to disclose the identity. All that matters is for him to have a successful operation’.
Governor Amaechi’s surprise donation came on eve of OJB’s birthday which is today July 4. Insiders say that the producer who is currently at the Lagos State University Teaching Hospital (LASUTH) undergoing dialysis hopes to have a low-key celebration with a few family and friends if discharged today.
Babatunde Jezreel Okungbowa, aka OJB Jezreel, is a civil engineer turned musician. The last child of a family of six, originally from Agbor, Delta State, OJB grew up in Lagos and Kaduna.
