These are not the best of times for freshly divorced singer, Toni Braxton as the ‘Un-break my Heart’ crooner has lost the rights to several of her major hit songs numbering 27 in total.
Toni whose divorce was only just finalised last Wednesday after being separated from her husband since 2009 lost the songs after she was outbid in her ongoing bankruptcy saga. Toni who has filed for bankruptcy thrice in 15 years struck a deal which saw her settle her debtors while still retaining an option to buy back her 27 songs from her music catalogue for $20,ooo. However, the deal had one small loophole – she could be outbid and that’s exactly what happened, a smart aleck named Ross M. Klein spotted the loophole and homed in for the kill by doubling Ms. Braxton’s price and nabbing the tunes. Songs included in the list of nabbed tunes are: ‘You’re Making Me High’, ‘How Many Ways’ and ‘Always’.
It is unclear whether her hit single ‘Unbreak My Heart’ still remains hers but the fate of the track remains shaky at this time. Implications of not owning the rights to the songs means that Toni Braxton will not be entitled to any profit made from sales or performance of the songs.
First the divorce and now the loss of her songs, it’s safe to say Toni’s heart will most certainly need some un-breaking…
